The Geraldton & Districts Offshore Fishing Club was formed in 1985. Its focus was to bring together like-minded local anglers mainly interested in targeting bottom fish varieties at the time. Meetings in these early days were held in an old Scout Hall until 1992. After a great deal of hard work fundraising and gathering resources the members at the time acquired a piece of land on the Geraldton foreshore which is commonly known as the Francis Street jetty. Its location was at the rear adjacent to the retail buildings located on the corner of Marine Terrace and Francis Street. Through the combined efforts of its many tradie members, the club rooms were completed in 1993 with a concrete fish cleaning table of substantial measurements beneath a shade cloth pergola & a front verandah perfect for members and their families providing enough shade to allow a great deal of frivolity to occur around the barbecue area and on the front lawn beneath the summer son and New Year’s fireworks. Many nights and days were spent with members and their families enjoying this unique space overlooking the beach and boat ramp…complete with the mining trains pulling in, the massive cargo ships and their accompanying tug boats all putting on regular displays for adults and kids alike to marvel at. 2024 saw the club affiliate with the Geraldton Yacht Club and we are now based at their Foreshore facility on Marine Terrace.
